Christmas card

I use old paintings (unsuccesful ones) to cut up and make small collages which I call my "Crazy Quilt" cards. Sometimes I do my own Christmas cards, and this year I did a collage and made copies for my Christmas cards. Doing these small collages is fun and makes use of left-over materials!

Another Thin Place

I have still been working on my Thin Places theme. After doing several paintings with almost no color and minimalist design, I am trying to add some color. I want the paintings to be impressionistic and to leave a lot of room for viewer interpretation. My friend from Scotland was here recently, and she is also interested in Thin Places!

Thin Places

Thin places are places that are sacred to the person, a place that feels connected to God or heaven. I am working on a series of thin places that are special to me. I love the beach and wetlands, or places where the water is meeting the land, especially where reeds or grasses emerge from the water. I am following Georgia O'Keefe's exercise in reducing elements down to the minimum, using little color. The attached painting is one of a series of "Changing Tides" which uses little color, some texture to give a feeling of movement of tides - which is symbolic of passing of time.

Non-objective

I just took the plunge and spent one whole day working non-objective, and I had a great time! I am attaching one painting from yesterday.

Abstract Art

I am still working on trying abstract painting. I am having a problem going completely non-objective; I still want to be able to see something recognizable. I guess it will take a lot more work on my part. I recently attended a talk on Jasper Johns which was very inspirational so maybe I can get started on something.

Variations

I am now working on variations of the wildflower series. I am abstracting the wildflower scenes and doing some paintings of weeds and grasses. I know I need to work some larger paintings, but I love the 12" x 12" format and have just ordered some more canvases. Guess that means more 12 x 12 paintings! Also, I am concentrating on using new colors; I am tired of doing green and blue for landscapes. I am really trying to use reds and yellows for warm paintings and use arbitrary colors for landscape scenes. I am attaching a painting that is an abstraction of red poppies.

More Wildflowers

I am posting another of my wildflower paintings. This series of paintings is done with acrylic paint on 12" x 12" canvas. I am almost finished with this series with the last few done in a more expressionistic style than the first ones. I love painting with this size canvas, but I think I need to tackle some larger works next.

Another Wildflower Painting

I am enjoying working on paintings of wildflowers as they are blooming now and are so beautiful. I find that I really am influenced and tend to be interested in painting what is around me. I am working with images that are fairly realistic, as in recognizable; then I move to abstract them and hopefully onto non-objective interpretations. Painting with a palette knife helps me to abstract.

New Series

I have been working on a new series based on wildflowers. The wildflowers are blooming in our area, and I find myself pulling over to the side of the road to take pictures of them. They are irresistable! I am continuing to work small, on canvas or board, in acylic. I have done several paintings that are recognizable as wildflowers, and I will continue to abstract them as I do more paintings.

Abstracting

I am posting a landscape abstraction. I can't seem to stay in the non-objective realm, have to get some recognizable things too. As usual, I haven't had much time to paint as I have been back to the beach again, this time with guests for golf. Back to painting!

Still Working

I have just finished having a two week time to paint, and it was just wonderful to feel that I had the time to work on some new things. I am trying to abstract landscape forms. I did several small paintings just emphasizing color and only suggesting the landscape. I am hovering between abstract and non-objective work.
I also have several juried shows coming up to enter, so wondering what to enter.
I am attaching one of my non-objective abstracts.

Working

Here I am now with a few days to get some painting done. It takes at least a day to get back into what I want to do. I am glad to have some time to paint, and I hope to be able to "play" and not just get things done. I am working on adapting a more abstract style to landscapes. I am posting another abstract in my series "New Adventures".
